Shelby
Coach
Shelby Woodard is a Yuba City local, a mother of three, and a coach who brings genuine enthusiasm and empathy to the YCCF community. Outside of the gym, Shelby works as a sound and media technician for her family’s event center, and much of her life revolves around raising her kids and supporting their interests and passions.
When she does find a little time for herself, Shelby enjoys diving into fantasy novels, gaming, and sharing classic games like Zelda with her son. She proudly calls herself a bit of a nerd and embraces it fully.
Shelby discovered CrossFit three years ago at Classified Fitness in Yuba City. Coming from a background in competitive softball, she was looking for something intense and challenging that would push her outside of her comfort zone. What she found was far more than just a workout. CrossFit became an outlet that helped her rediscover a sense of individuality, set personal goals, and build both mental and physical strength while balancing life as a single mom.
Coaching quickly became a natural extension of that journey. Shelby loves seeing members laugh, smile, and accomplish things they once thought were impossible. Being part of those breakthrough moments — when someone conquers a difficult movement or realizes their own strength — is what motivates her most as a coach. Her goal is to leave a lasting impact that goes beyond the workout, helping members build confidence, joy, and empowerment that carry into their everyday lives.
Shelby believes great coaching starts with understanding each athlete as an individual. She focuses on learning where members are in their fitness journey so workouts can be adapted to meet their needs while still challenging them to grow. Whether someone is brand new to CrossFit or a seasoned athlete, Shelby works to create an experience that is engaging, effective, and fun.
Her biggest piece of advice for anyone just starting CrossFit is simple: do not compare your journey to anyone else’s. Everyone progresses at their own pace, and improvement comes from showing up consistently and focusing on small steps forward.
At the heart of Shelby’s coaching philosophy is connection. She loves helping people feel welcomed, supported, and part of something bigger than themselves. Around the gym, she is always happy to help with a movement, offer encouragement, or jump in as a workout partner — because for Shelby, CrossFit is as much about community as it is about fitness.
